Whenever I see the Martha Stewart’s name on anything, I’m drawn in like a moth to the flame…so while shopping at Home Depot I spotted Martha’s new line of special finish paints and immediately had to figure out what to use the paint on. Good thing I’m knees deep in DIY projects since buying the house. The paint comes in a variety of finishes including metallic glaze, glitter, textured metallic, terra cotta, crackle, etc. Available at The Home Depot, $5.48-8.98 for a 10oz. I used the Metallic Paint in Vintage Gold.
Weekend Warrior Project # 2 – Mirror
I’m working on decorating my guest bedroom and decided to make a vanity out of my current desk (making a new desk for my office will be another weekend project). I needed a mirror and scored another great find at my favorite antique store. Purchased this mirror for only $40!
BEFORE: Sorry I didn’t take a better before shot!
AFTER: I wasn’t in love with the oak finish so I decided it needed a face lift.
Here is how I did it:
- I used painter’s tape (the blue colored kind) and kraft paper to cover the mirror edges.
- I primed the entire mirror with Rust-Oleum Painter’s Touch Ultra Cover 2x Coverage Primer. Again let me stress, if you haven’t been using this paint to refinish things then I highly suggest you start using it. It’s a spray can, paint and primer in one so it cuts your project time in half!
- The color is Martha Stewart Specialty Paint in Vintage Gold, which I painted on using a regular paint brush. This needed about 3 coats of paint.
- Total cost of the project: $46
Weekend Warrior Project #1 – Hutch
BEFORE: Got this lovely hutch at my favorite antique store here in Phoenix for $60.
AFTER:
I couldn’t be helper with the way this turned out! Here is how I did it:
- I primed the entire hutch with Rust-Oleum Painter’s Touch Ultra Cover 2x Coverage in white. If you haven’t been using this paint to refinish things then I highly suggest you start using it. It’s a spray can, paint and primer in one so it cuts your project time in half!
- The gray color is Benjamin Moore’s Stone 2112-40. I find that the small sponge rollers work best in the paint application for these type of projects.
- Added a new crystal knob from Joan’s for $2.50 on sale.
- Total cost of the project: $35

Dating A Royal
It’s happens every couple of months, I get obsessed with a particular color and want to incorporate it into everything from my wardrobe to my home decor. Right now I can’t get enough of Cobalt Blue (probably influenced from the high I still have from the royal wedding and that my sister is studying abroad this summer in Greece). For a few weeks I have been searching for a blue dress within budget, yet to find one but Reese Witherspoon and Eva Mendes (both in Stella McCartney) and Emma Roberts (in Michael Kors) make stunning appearances in theirs. I was able to get a quick fix when I got a pedicure this weekend and found the OPI color Dating A Royal (immediately ran to the beauty supply store afterwards to make sure I had the color for home). While on my search for a dress, accessories are acting as a quick fix. I picked up the shoes below from H&M for only $34.95!
Drinks before noon, yes please.
It only took me 4 years to get on the Mad Men band wagon and now I can’t get enough. It seems the decor of the 60’s is starting to infect my current decorating style. Maybe it is the economy and people have to downsize on space, but I have been noticing the bar carts having a big comeback. The best part is they work into any home style: vintage, modern, country, outdoor, etc.
With a bar like this is seems completely appropriate to have a drink at any time of the day, especially if it’s with Don Drapper.
From the words of Mr. Carter (a.ka. Jay-Z)
“I think it’s every human’s job to inspire others, to feed one another’s senses. Inspiration begets inspiration times infinity. Imagine if the person that was inspired to create the phonograph didn’t share it with the world.” – Jay-Z (goop.com)
On that note, my goal was to start blogging weekly, then it turned into monthly and then well life got in the way…But today I’m starting again with a goal to get back to a minium of once a week posts on the things that I love, inspire me and make me who I am today.
Veni, Vidi, Vici.
So it begins…
I made a resolution last year to start a blog…I came to WordPress signed up and then never returned until now. I went 13 months without doing a single post. Honestly, I just wasn’t inspired enough to write anything and like usual life got in the way – job sucking the life out of me and well, pretty much that’s all I did (I’ve been told I need to balance better, not work so much). I may only be 27 years old but I’ve been through a lot, especially in the last week, which has finally kicked me in the behind to start this blog. Bottom line, the last few years have taught me to only do what I love and surround myself with people who are like hearted.
So maybe this will end up being therapeutic, tell my experiences and help others who are going through the same thing. Or another creative outlet for me to share all the wonderful things I find and love. I’m always getting asked what am I wearing or how I made something, my lovely roommate calls me “Mini Martha” (as in Martha Stewart), you don’t even know how happy that makes me. But I’ll start this blog and see where it brings me. The hardest part has been just getting started….
